Reusable Cutlery

It's been a bit since I posted anything, and well, that's because we've been busy with Reuse First and general life things. We took a trip to the thrift store today and are going to contemplate finding cutlery for the wedding from the thrift store. We figure instead of spending money on disposable stuff, it might make sense to spend a little more and get actual cutlery that could be packed up after the wedding, washed and donated back. Of course, we have to weigh the pricing differences and the difficulty of providing for up to 300 people. Our goal is to be as kind to the environment as possible!

Location, Location...Location??

Things have finally settled down after the holiday madness of having 6 families between the two of us. We've cleared our heads for the new year and suddenly, we came to an idea for the location of our wedding. We've started talking with our good friends Bill and Eileen, Eileen's family has a large farm about 4 hours north in Wisconsin. We'll be talking with them again soon and figuring out if the whole family would approve.

That being said, we are praying that it comes through because as of yet, this is the only affordable option we have come across that would allow us to have as many people as we want without paying 3 grand just for a space. This would also give us the freedom to do the food however we want... NO expensive caterers! If this works out, we would be doing some sort of DIY potluck type thing. I know i know, everyone we say that to raises an eyebrow and laughs a little. We think it's possible! Not easy, no one said we were going for easy (remember, we're broke! easy is in no way synonymous with broke). We have a lot of friends and family who would most likely be willing to help out with the mass chopping of veggies etc. We're vegan/vegetarian so the lack of meat will make things A)waaaay cheaper and B)waaaay easier.

Once we get the go ahead from Eileen and her family, we would visit the farm, take pictures and start making our grand plans... EXCITING!

That's all for now,
cheerio!

It Begins!

And so does the intermittent blogging! While my sister was in town from England, she insisted on buying me at least one wedding magazine... gasp! It all became that much more real. The next dayI took the magazine to work so i could have some reading material on my breaks. Now, I'm not really a girly-magazine-reading kind of girl... and to me, a wedding magazine is about the girliest kind you can get. So when i pulled it out of my locker and set it on the table i became a bit self-aware. Perusing it's pages, skipping quickly past the pages that seemed just too girly (the wedding dress fashion shoot in particular!). I dunno, maybe it just seems like an open invite for middle aged women to oogle and awe over the fact that you're getting married... kinda like new babies... I just never fancied myself the "wedding-planning" type i guess??

In any event, I'm getting over my awkward "I'm getting...married??" stage and trying to take steps to start understanding what all goes into a wedding... my wedding. Neither Jeremiah nor I are very traditional people. We're both of a creative nature and are exceptionally visual people... oh and exceptionally broke! I work at the art institute of chicago's gift shop warehouse 40 hours a week and do freelance photography and Jeremiah Dj's and does freelance graphic design, together we have a small business, Reuse First. So we are exceptionally busy and determined as well as perpetually broke as we venture down the road of entrepreneurship.

So now the real challenge begins... how do you plan a wedding for around 300 guests when you live in one of the most expensive cities and have no time and no money?? It's going to be an interesting ride, that's for sure!
